GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE SCHOOL
This College was formed in September 1974 as an 11 to 16 Comprehensive School for some 800 boys and girls by amalgamating two highly successful single sex schools which shared the same site. It serves a well-established mixed dormitory area of the Industrial Midlands though it lies in close proximity to pleasant Worcestershire Countryside and the M5/M6 is very close to hand.
The main College building was erected in the early 1930’s on an elevated site with tennis courts and a small playing field attached. Several additional buildings, the most recent phase being completed in 1976, have provided excellent specialist accommodation.
Two/three Primary Schools automatically feed their children to this College and an increasing number of children opt here on appeal. We have not been affected by falling roles or redeployment and the College is consistently over subscribed.
The College is popular and has a reputation for discipline and good order with a priority being placed on qualities of citizenship, which enables us to live and work together effectively.
In September 2003, we were designated Specialist Status in Technology and changed our name from Bristnall Hall High School. There are many new and exciting changes taking place… all geared to raising achievement and impacting on teaching/learning.
The effect of these changes has contributed to the outstanding results achieved in 2009 with 73% of students gaining 5 A* - C, with 43% including English and Maths. We not only expect to sustain these results but improve on them year on year. Are you ready to meet such a challenge?
Organisation and Curriculum
The horizontal organisation takes the form of a Lower School, Years 7, 8 and 9, and an Upper School, Years 10 and 11. Each has its own Head of School and Assistant Head of School.
The vertical organisation has related or sympathetic subject areas grouped in Faculties which have a Director who is responsible for organising work and standards within the Areas.
The Headteacher has consultative arrangements within the staff body, which include a Planning Committee of Senior Staff and elected Staff members.
Many interesting and challenging courses are developed within the school, and a high standard of academic achievement is expected at examination level.
The collective efforts of the Staff have created a firm but friendly tone within the College and new colleagues with sound regard for order and hard work are always welcomed by an industrious and happy Staff team.
The College is held in high regard by parents who send their children here because of our insistence on acceptable standards and codes of conduct. Visitors, and more recently OFSTED comment on the hard working atmosphere and positive attitudes of pupils. This is a College to be judged by a visit and not by checking where it is on the map.
